Firm Edge Divan

Burgess manufactures two types of Firm Edge Divan. i.e. One that is free standing (known as firm edge or Deep Divan) and one that is to be used in conjunction with a bedstead (known as a bed base) and is not free standing. The basic bed base is manufactured using 3.5" or 5.5" solid wooden side frames into which high tensile double cone upholstery springs are affixed prior to upholstery and cover. The Firm Edge Divan (Deep Divan) is manufactured using 11" or 13" solid wooden side frames. The springs are fixed in exactly the same way as the Bed Base. Both these products are often referred to as a Box Spring Divan. None of these products are offered with a drawer option.

Filling Specification

The fillings specifications are identical for all these products. The individual double-coned springs are hand laced together using heavy-duty ‘jute' webbing. A Hessian insulator pad is the affixed to the frame and springs onto which multiple layers of wool and polyester are placed prior to upholstery and cover.

Finishing Specification

The Divan borders and panels are sewn with identical ticking and the cover is then tape edged using complimentary colour tape. All double divans are offered hinged East to West for ease of entry into the home. Please note that these bases cannot be split (i.e. separate head end to foot end) due to the nature of the design. If required, double sizes can be fully split North to South to effectively create two single size beds which can subsequently be linked together to form a double size. The last finishing touch is the application of a classical Burgess badge secured with brass tacks to confirm our hallmark of continued quality.

Spring Specification

The springs are fully heat-treated. There are 325 individual open coil springs at 3.5" deep in the standard King size.
