So you have seen a Bed, Mattress or Futon which you want to purchase?
One question which you will inevitably ask yourself before your order arrives, is what do you do with your old Bed or Mattress?
Firstly, you need to think whether or not the item could be in good enough condition for someone else to make use of?
If the answer is "Yes" then please consider the options below;
Sell your items through local newspapers
This can make you some extra cash, however there is the inconvenience of having people telephoning or visiting to look at the items.
Donate to a Homeless Charity
Look up your local Homeless Support Charity, they may be able to collect your old item for you and make excellent use of it for a good cause.
Donate to one of the Big Charities who have Furniture stores
This is an area that Charitable Organisations such as St Roccos, British Heart Foundation, Red Cross, RSPCA are starting to focus on to generate extra revenue. They will often collect your item free of charge. http://www.charityshops.org.uk/
Recycle Your Old Item
If you are lucky enough to live in an area that offers free recycling facilities for beds or mattresses at your local ‘tip', then your local authority will take your items and recycle them free of charge.
If you are not living within one of those areas then http://www.recycle.co.uk/ may be the best and most environmentally friendly way of disposing of you item.
If the answer is "No" then;
Landfill
Did you know it can take up to 100 years for most of the materials in you mattress to degrade?! Disposing of you mattress or bed in a landfill site is not only costly (approx £30 per item) but extremely environmentally unfriendly. Over 300 mattresses alone are disposed of each day. Please try to make this your last option when disposing of your old mattress or bed. There are many other ways to dispose of your mattress or bed. If in doubt email us and we will try to offer you an option to recycle in your area.
